This week we have been going through feedback from our strategic partners regarding the tool, we have had some really useful insights that have gone on to generate some interesting conversations, reflections and updates.

Based on the feedback, we are adjusting the visual / display of the tool and making the form shorter so the process of filling it out is easier for users. Now groups will be able to ‘click through’ to the next section. We are currently working on adjusting the colours and background to ensure the tool is easier to read and accessible to all. …

It’s been an exciting week at Community Action: MK we have been looking through some feedback we received from groups which has offered a really useful insight and new ideas as we continue developments of the tool.

We were pleased to share our work with our friends at NAVCA and hope the blog gives an overview of the project, tool and the future plans for gathering community data. You can take a look at the piece we wrote here.

It is amazing to see the work we have been doing come together and the physical development of the prototype. We…

Week 8 was about us taking a little break and some much needed and overdue annual leave, although our team member, Julie, did take part in the very interesting session on story-telling. As a result of which she has produced a digital story of our project, with a particular focus on open learning, via the Padlet platform. See it here.

We were pleased we had been able to get our prototype tool out to our groups / key contacts before our break, but we did not receive as much feedback as we hoped for (Annual leave all round it seems!)…

Finally… we have completed our first draft of themes and keywords! We now have a favour to ask, if you have 5 -10 minutes please take a look at our themes and keywords Jam board. This is a vital piece of work and we are keen to capture thoughts, experiences and expertise from others to make it as good of a tool as possible.

It’s really simple, we swear — we have made this Jamboard, on it there are the themes and keywords that will be shared in our data form. Please take a quick look through them all, or…

As we continue through this project, the process of bringing a tool to life has revealed, more than ever, the scope of the challenge we are addressing. As we shared last week, it is very exciting to see the progress being made, but the scale and breadth of the challenge means that some things are taking a little longer than we envisaged. The process of tidying and creating more keywords and themes has been a long and windy road. Our beneficiary groups represent the whole voluntary and community sector (VCS), therefore their work touches on a vast range of areas.

This week here at Community Action: MK we did further work in listing the key areas of work as well and the key themes and keywords to include in the tool — under which our local VCSE groups will be able to record their information/ intelligence under. We feel that this is a really crucial area of the project — we want to make sure that the data framework we design will be as inclusive as possible and will help, in the future, to analyse the information that will be recorded via the tool, so key themes and emerging issues/…

Another week in the project and another week filled with team-discussions, explorations, and zooming into how we can structure the data we want to collect, and which tools will be best placed to do it. A lot of internal work in organising the data before we chat to our groups is required.

For Mosaic, it has been another week of Angus talking to our users (the local Voluntary and Community Sector groups in Milton Keynes — see more detailed update from Mosaic below). We wanted to say huge thanks to those of our local groups that have taken time to…

This week has been one focused on getting our ducks in a row… Angus (Mosaic Digital) has continued to reach out to some of our local groups in MK to explore groups’ data needs and what they hope our new system can provide. This has paved the way for some initial exploration into digital solutions — there has been investigation into Google Forms / G-Suite , AirTable and Ragic. We are looking to further explore AirTable next week.

For us this week has been more reflective and looking back, that that we can explore ‘re-use’ principles. We have previously conducted…

An insight from our Digital Partner — Angus at Mosaic Digital

“Starting any new project is always daunting, there are plenty of butterflies as you wonder whether you’ve got enough time, how will you get on with your clients …. but this one’s got us more excited than most: 10 weeks to solve a problem that will hopefully have a significant beneficial and long term impact on residents and community groups alike; it isn’t the usual time frame we work to, so we’ve dived straight in.

The idea sounds simple enough — provide three things:

1. a mechanism for communities…

We kicked things off this week with the Catalyst team, met our digital partner — Angus from Mosaic Digital. It was great to chat through our aspirations for the project in more detail, it did however make us realise that the scope for the project is huge! slightly overwhelmingly, so we now want to ensure we set the right parameters for the project so that we achieve what we can within the 10 week period.

To get us started Angus is now reaching out to some local groups to ensure they are involved with the design from the very start…
